A radar gun works on the same principle of someone holding a flashlight at night. They turn the flashlight directly in your direction, but the person has to be close enough to see you. While there are those who would say the only reason for having a radar laser detector system is if you are a constant speeder, it can serve a purpose even if you are not. While most of us consider ourselves safe drivers and do not constantly go over the speed limit, most of us do speed from time to time. There are also times when you might not realize that you are speeding, because of distractions or not paying attention. These are the times that it might be helpful to have a detector radar system in the car. Not paying attention isn't a good reason to get a ticket.

If most people are honest about it, an above average amount of people speed from time to time. And while you may not believe that it is a big enough reason to purchase a radar detector, the added security might not be a bad idea. If you do not monitor your speed and have a tendency to daydream or to just not pay attention, then having a radar laser detector unit might not be a bad idea. It might be better to have the detector radar device, if they are legal in your state, than to get caught speeding because you lost your train of thought.
